Charging Floor Waste Gullies

How and why it is now approved to negate the installation of expensive, ineffective and time consuming methods of charging floor wastes, such as the following -

Grate Seal is a self sealing device utilised for the prevention of foaming suds, ingress of vermin and malodorous gases to the habitable area. The product is installed in the sanitary drainage system and provided supplementary to a waste trap. See the WaterMark certification.

The only requirement is a hose tap installed in the same room as per AS 3500 4.6.8.1 (d)

Laundry Floor Waste Gullies

How and why it is now good plumbing practice to connect the laundry tub to the laundry floor waste and not incur foaming suds or odours due to the floor waste drying out.

Charging the laundry floor waste by connection of a laundry tub is an approved method as shown in Table 4.4

The installation of Grate Seal will negate the need to have an extended laundry arm fitted to the laundry tub tap ware to comply with AS 3500. These days it is not convenient with the common practice now to fit a flick mixer tap. There is no need to fit a hose tap in the laundry as the tub is the complying method of charging the floor waste. The sanitary drainage is simplified with the connection of the tub via the laundry floor waste avoiding the need for an oblique junction or the need for venting.
