Grate Seal FAQ

Q. Is Grate Seal only protected by design coverage or does it also have a patent?
Answer A. Grate Seal is patented - No: 2008243269. Grate Seal also has a registered design and is Trademark registered.

Q. Does Grate Seal have any Plumbing approvals, if so do you have any reports or Certification?
Answer A. Yes Grate Seal is a watermark approved product which has a standard written for it. It meets the Australian Standard 3500 which is the plumbing code for Australia and New Zealand.
See certificate of conformity.

Q. What is the material made from?
Answer A. Model GSO1 is produced from a neoprene rubber which has excellent characteristics. However we can produce Grate Seal from a material specifically to suite its purpose, for example if grate seal was requested for an oil refinery we would use a nitrile compound which has characteristics fit for the purpose.
See chemical characteristics chart.

Q. Does the rubber last a long time; does it harden or break down from different chemicals?
Answer A. Rubber has an excellent life expectancy and should the correct material selection be made it will not harden or break down.

Q. How simple is it to install Grate Seal?
Answer A. GRATE SEAL is so easy to install, as there is no need for alterations to existing waste outlets, drainage or tiles. Simply Set and Forget! As per video presentation.

Q. What volume of water can it handle; is there any restriction to its applications?
Answer A. Grate Seal can cope with large volumes of water. To obtain a watermark approval the product had to undergo independent testing. The flow rate is greater than the maximum flow rate from a tap outlet, as specified in AS/NZS3500. Maximum flow rate through a tap = 18L/minute, there was no overflow when tested at 20L/minute.

Q. Is there a minimum amount of water or flow required to make the Grate Seal work effectively?
Answer A. Even small amounts of water will activate the valve, this also is part of the testing criteria.

Q. Will it still be necessary to top up floor wastes with water and disinfectants?
Answer A. No Grate seal is a mechanical seal which creates a barrier between the drainage system and the habitable area.

Q. Why use Grate seal over other products on the market?
Answer A. Grate Seal is the quickest and simplest to install, there is no need to change existing outlets as Grate Seal can be RETRO fitted. Grate Seal does not require there to be any water in the outlet to be 100% effective. No need for the removal and replacement of tiled surfaces, concrete, waterproofing, gyprock replacement and setting as well as painting.
